Some good news for the winless Flyers on Friday — GM Ron Hextall said the club was “optimistic” that injured d-man Braydon Coburn could be back in the lineup as early as next Saturday, when Philly opens a three-game road trip in Dallas.
If that prediction holds true, Coburn will only miss two more games: tomorrow’s game against Montreal, and Tuesday’s affair against the Ducks.
Coburn, 29, was a late scratch for Thursday’s 6-4 loss to New Jersey with a lower-body ailment. The decision to drop him from the lineup came after he played 20:02 in the opener against Boston, registering three shots on goal and a plus-1 rating.
With Coburn out of the lineup, the Flyers were forced to give Nick Schultz his team debut against the Devils, and he responded by playing just over 14 minutes with one hit and one shot on goal.
