The Winnipeg Jets started their season with a decisive victory against the Arizona Coyotes, but they can’t be too happy after Evander Kane left the contest with a knee injury.

The news got grimmer on Friday when Jets coach Paul Maurice revealed that he “wouldn’t list (Kane) as day-to-day,” per the Winnipeg Sun’s Ken Wiebe.

The Jets are scheduled to compete against San Jose on Saturday and Los Angeles on Sunday. After that, they won’t play again until Oct. 17.

Kane is coming off of a rough season where he was limited to 19 goals and 41 points and there’s been constant reports regarding his future with Winnipeg, but as long as he’s with the Jets, they need him to be one of their best players. He’s in the middle of a six-year, $31.5 million contract.
