The New York Rangers have lost puck moving and veteran defenseman Dan Boyle to injury.

The club announced shortly after a 3-2 win over the St. Louis Blues that Boyle had suffered a broken hand and will be out of the lineup four to six weeks.

Boyle left the game early in the third period and did not return.

After spending the last six seasons with the San Jose Sharks, Boyle, 38, signed with the Rangers to a two-year, $9 million deal on the first day of free agency.

The Rangers and Boyle seemed to be a good fit early in the summer, with Boyle expressing a desire to play for an Original Six team.
