The Colorado Avalanche are getting ready for their 20th season in 2015-16 and want to mark the occasion with an outdoor game. Nothing has been finalized yet, but team president Josh Kroenke is “very optimistic about our chance,” per the Associated Press.

Some of the possible venues for the event include the Colorado Rockies’ Coors Field and the Denver Broncos’ Sports Authority Field at Mile High. Kroenke wouldn’t give any indication of which location looks like the most probable though, according to the Denver Post. It’s also not clear if the Avalanche would be hosting a Stadium Series contest or the Winter Classic in the event that they get an outdoor game.

While there have been outdoor contests across the United States and Canada, so far no city west of Chicago has hosted the Winter Classic. In January, Washington, D.C. will become the southernmost city to host the event when the Capitals play against the Chicago Blackhawks at Nationals Park.

Of course, the Avalanche have more immediate concerns with their 19th season set to start. They surprised a lot of people by winning the Central Division last season, but they have to prove themselves all over again, especially with some pointing to their poor puck possession numbers as an indication that they overperformed in 2013-14.
