Jordin Tootoo made good on his training camp tryout with the Devils on Tuesday, agreeing to a one-year, one-way deal.

Tootoo, 31, joined the Devils this fall after Detroit bought out the last of his three-year, $5.7 million deal. The former Predator never really fit in with the Red Wings, making just 11 appearances last season while spending the majority of his time with AHL Grand Rapids.

Now, though, Tootoo is back in the mix and appears set for a fourth-line energy role with the Devils.

As for the other veteran that attended camp on a PTO, the result of Scott Gomez’s tryout with the New Jersey Devils is... yet to be determined.

Gomez, 34, wants to return to the site of what he called “the best hockey of my career,” but appears to be caught up in a numbers game; as such, the Devils have asked him to be part of their “taxi squad” and stick around until a roster spot opens up.

“As far as Scotty, we will recommend that he stays and practices like a taxi squad practice,” Devils GM Lou Lamoriello explained, per NorthJersey.com. “We have had that conversation. If you remember in the past, Tommy Albelin did that.

“Scotty has had a tremendous camp. He is in great shape and has shown he can still play, but right now there is no roster spot in that role that he has.”

Here’s Gomez discussing his situation:
