Coyotes’ King headed back to Russia

DaveKing
Arizona developmental coach Dave King has been re-hired by KHL club Lokomotiv and will take a temporary leave from the Coyotes, GM Don Maloney confirmed on Wednesday:

#Coyotes GM Don Maloney: “Dave King has been released from his employment contract with us to coach in Russia... (more)”

#Coyotes GM Don Maloney: "(cont.)... We anticipate he will rejoin us once his KHL season has ended.”

King, 66, first joined Lokomotiv in February to take over for Pyotr Vorobyov, who resigned due to health issues. King inherited a club that squeaked into the playoffs but proceeded to go on a surprise run to the Western Conference Final, falling just short of playing for the Gagarin Cup.

The former Flames and Blue Jackets bench boss has enjoyed tremendous success coaching in Europe throughout his career. King won the 2005 Spengler Cup as the head coach of Metallurg Magnitogorsk, defeating Team Canada 8-3 in the final, then went on to write a book about his time coaching in Russia.

King also coached in the German league before returning to the NHL as an assistant with the Coyotes in 2009.
