The Boston Bruins have sent three forwards -- Ryan Spooner, Justin Florek, and Alex Khokhlachev -- and goalie Jeremy
Smith (subject to waivers) to AHL Providence.

Spooner and Florek were each considered candidates to make the Bruins’ opening-day roster and start the regular season in a new-look bottom six.

But, apparently, Boston’s braintrust decided against that when it held a meeting last night following a 5-3 preseason loss to the Islanders.

“We’re going to have to make some decisions here with the season basically a week away,” said coach Claude Julien. “We’re going to have some decisions to make on who’s going to start here.

“Depending on the health of our team, maybe some will start [in Boston but] won’t be here all year. Those are things you have to do when you’re put in that situation. I think we have to be honest here; there are some spots open. Some guys are taking advantage of it and really making a case for themselves, and some others haven’t.”

Forwards Craig Cunningham, Bobby Robins, Jordan Caron, Simon Gagne, David Pastrnak, and Matt Fraser remain with the club.

Julien is also hoping that injured forward Gregory Campbell (core injury) will be back soon.
