The Dallas Stars finally agreed to terms with one of their two restricted free agents on Monday, inking Cody Eakin to a two-year deal worth $3.8 million.

Eakin, 23, had been absent from Stars camp while he and fellow RFA Brenden Dillon hammered out new deals (both are represented by the same agency, Titan Sports). Eakin’s new deal has an average annual cap hit of $1.9 million, up from the $572K he made annually on his entry-level contract.

A gritty, two-way center that came from Washington as part of the Mike Ribeiro trade, Eakin has been a solid contributor for the Stars over the last two seasons, appearing in all 48 games during the lockout-shortened ’13 campaign and scoring a career-high 16 goals and 35 points in 81 games last year.

Eakin was also a stellar contributor for Dallas in the playoffs, scoring five points in six games during an opening-round loss to Anaheim.

With Eakins’ deal now done, the Stars will focus all their attention on Dillon, who’s been an equally vital contributor over the last two seasons. He broke onto the scene during the ’13 season, averaging over 21 minutes while appearing in all 48 games and finishing 10th in Calder voting. Last year, the British Columbia native scored 17 points in 80 games — which included a career-high six goals — leading all Stars in hits (168) while finishing second in blocked shots (149).
