In a change many might take for granted, the Wells Fargo Center has installed 25,000 new LEDs lights over the summer and that’s led to an adjustment period for goaltender Steve Mason.
His first experience with the new lightning came during the Philadelphia’s 4-0 victory over New Jersey on Thursday. He had to swap out his new mask for an old one during the first intermission to deal with the glare.
“It’s eventually going to be helpful,” Mason said, per the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Mason added that with the old lightning, there were shadows that led to things looking like they had a yellow or orange tint, but now everything appears clear. He still plans on using his new mask too now that he’s sandpapered it to reduce the glare.
The Flyers will play in the Wells Fargo Center on Tuesday, giving Mason and his teammates one final chance to adjust to the lights before the games count.
