Well, that was fast.

On Monday, the Colorado Avalanche announced a two-year contract extension for veteran d-man Brad Stuart -- a deal worth $7.2 million overall, good for a $3.6M average annual cap hit.

The deal comes almost three months to the day that Colorado acquired Stuart, 34, from San Jose in exchange for a pair of draft picks; the deal also comes prior to Stuart making his Avs regular-season debut (he has participated in a handful of exhibition games for Colorado, mind you.)

An experienced guy that’s not afraid to play physical -- just ask Avs captain Gabriel Landeskog -- Stuart will retain his current $3.6M salary under terms of the new contract and remain Colorado’s second highest-paid rearguard, behind Erik Johnson. It’s unclear if Stuart’s new deal comes with a no-movement clause; his old one with San Jose had a modified NTC, which he waived in order to join the Avs.
