The Montreal Canadiens announced that they’ve cut 17 players from their training camp roster, but the one that stood out in that list was 18-year-old forward Nikita Scherbak.

Scherbak was taken with the 26th overall pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft and while he wasn’t expected to make the team in the first place, the Canadiens were disappointed with him, according to Sportsnet’s John Shannon. He will report to the WHL’s Everett Silvertips and get another chance to show what he can do in next year’s training camp.

Montreal also sent Tim Bozon to AHL Hamilton, but the fact that he participated in training camp at all is an achievement. Bozon had to be placed in a medically induced coma back in March after he was hospitalized with bacterial meningitis.

When he was healthy enough to do so, Bozon worked hard to get back to the point where he could play hockey again. He lost nearly 40 pounds while he was sick, but worked his way back up to 194. He also had to work on things people take for granted, such as his speech.

Montreal still has 35 players left on its camp roster.
