Jets’ Galiardi needs at least one week to recover from eye surgery

In what must have been a scary scene on Friday, Winnipeg Jets winger T.J. Galiardi took a puck to the left eye in practice. It sounds like things worked out well on Saturday, as he underwent surgery to “regain” sight in that left eye and will need about a week to recover:

(The Winnipeg Free Press has a bloodied photo of Galiardi here, if you want an idea of how much of a scare that was.)

Galiardi, 26, could be a nice under-the-radar pickup for Winnipeg if his vision is indeed where it needs to be. While he didn’t light the NHL on fire with Calgary last season (17 points in 62 games), his possession numbers were quite solid, especially considering Calgary’s struggles and iffy linemates. At just $750K, he could be a subtle bargain.

First things first, making sure his eye is OK is obviously the first priority.
