Michael McCarron’s chances of cracking the Montreal roster this fall took a major hit on Thursday, as the club announced he’d miss the next six weeks with a shoulder injury.
McCarron, the Habs’ first-round pick (25th overall) at the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, suffered the shoulder injury during a preseason game against Boston, which forced him from the contest entirely. The injury is the latest setback for McCarron who, in his first season with OHL London last year, struggled to find his form -- the Michigan native scored just 14 goals in 66 games and didn’t fare very well for the Knights at the Memorial Cup.
That said, McCarron remains an intriguing prospect. He’s got terrific size (6-foot-6, 235 pounds) and Habs head coach Michel Therrien was happy with his performance against the Bruins prior to getting hurt, saying that McCarron “had an impact in the game.”
