Report: Jets invite veteran goalie Taylor to camp

DannyTaylor

Journeyman goaltender Danny Taylor will reportedly be in attendance when Winnipeg opens camp this week, according to TSN Radio 1290 and CBC.

Taylor, 28, is an interesting story. After making his NHL debut for L.A. during the 2007-08 campaign, he went five years between appearances before suiting up twice for Calgary during the lockout-shortened ’13 campaign, recording his first-ever win -- a 29-save effort against Vancouver -- in the process.

Last year, Taylor went 4-11-0 with Farjestads of the Swedish league, but did post a solid .917 save percentage and 2.32 GAA.

The interesting angle in all of this, though, is where Taylor’s landed. Winnipeg has arguably the league’s thinnest netminding depth heading into the regular season, with the oft-scrutinized Ondrej Pavelec as the starter and Michael Hutchinson, he of the three career NHL appearances, as the No. 2.

The rest of the organizational depth chart is filled with youngsters like Connor Hellebuyck, Juho Olkiuora and Eric Comrie.
