The New Jersey Devils have avoided a potential holdout with RFA defenseman Eric Gelinas, inking him to a new deal just prior to the start of the club’s training camp. In conjunction with the news, the Devils also announced that veteran blueliner Mike Komisarek would be heading to camp on a PTO.

The bigger of the two developments is Gelinas, who went the entire summer without a deal and appeared in a bit of a stalemate last week, when agent Gilles Lupien said the contract was in the hands of Devils GM Lou Lamoriello.

“It’s all up to Lou. Lou is the boss. We’re waiting to see what Lou wants to do,” Lupien said, per NorthJersey.com. “It’s always money. It’s always money and [Lamoriello] loves to play with the power. That’s what everybody knows.”

In keeping with the “Lou is the boss” theme, the Devils released no details as to the term and dollar figure on Gelinas’ new deal. It’s safe to say, though, that the 23-year-old rearguard has received a raise on the $660,000 he made annually on his entry-level deal. Gelinas is coming off a pretty solid rookie campaign, in which he scored 29 points in 60 games for the Devils.

UPDATE: Per TVA’s Renaud Lavoie, it’s a one-year, $900,000 deal for Gelinas. That’s the exact same deal that another of New Jersey’s young defensemen, Adam Larsson, signed earlier this summer.

As for Komisarek, he’s headed to camp following a rough stint in Carolina, where he appeared in just 32 games while averaging under 12 minutes per night. The 32-year-old has fallen on hard times in the last few years and is seemingly a longshot to make the New Jersey roster, especially with so many other veterans in camp -- Komisarek will join the likes of Scott Gomez, Tomas Kaberle, Jordin Tootoo, Ruslan Fedotenko as journeymen in on PTOs.
