Sonny Milano’s time as a member of the Columbus Blue Jackets’ organization has gotten off to a rough start. After being taken with the 16th overall pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, Milano was checked into the boards on Thursday and a preliminary report suggested that he could be out for eight weeks due to “multiple facial fractures.”
The silver lining is that his injuries don’t appear to be as severe as initially feared.
“It’s a very minor, small fracture which is good news,” Blue Jackets president John Davidson told the team’s website. “There is no surgery required for him. When you think of a time frame, it’s really hard to tell. He will miss a little bit of time, but not a lot of time - it all depends on how it heals.
“He’s going to come back to Columbus with us (after the tournament), he’ll see our doctors there, and we’ll take it from there.”
At the very least, Milano won’t participate in the remainder of the rookie tournament. He’s projected to play for the OHL Plymouth Whalers in 2014-15.
