From CSN New England’s Joe Haggerty:
The Bruins, of course, may be forced to trade Johnny Boychuk to get under the salary cap. At least, that’s the speculation. The 30-year-old is in the final year of his contract, after which he can become an unrestricted free agent. So the speculation makes sense.
A right-shooting, top-four d-man, Boychuk should be able to net the B’s a reasonably good return, should they choose to deal him away.
“If [a trade] happens then you work on that part,” said Boychuk, “but you can’t control any of it right now.
“You just keep playing the way that you can. You always want to stay here, and stay with the guys that you grew up playing with. But every year there are going to be guys that leave the team.
“Even if you win a championship there are going to be guys that leave the team. You’ll see guys coming and going, and that’s part of the deal.”
