There has been speculation for quite a while about Evander Kane’s future with the Winnipeg Jets. He’s signed through the 2017-18 campaign, but many have wondered if he’d welcome a trade, especially given some of the statements he’s made on the matter.

Back in July he was directly asked if he wanted to continue to play for Winnipeg and he dodged the question by stating, “Well, I think I’m a Winnipeg Jet right now and there’s been speculation and rumors for the three years since I got there. So we’ll see what happens and we’ll carry on as I’m a Winnipeg Jet.”

Winnipeg Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff didn’t exactly kill the rumors either when he refused to state whether or not Kane had requested a trade. However, regardless of what may or may not have been said behind closed doors, Kane wasn’t traded this summer and when the subject was brought up during a TSN 1290 interview, Kane was willing to address his previous statements.

“Much like I said in the interview; as usual, what I say gets speculated and over-analyzed sometimes, but I’m definitely looking forward to coming to camp,” Kane said. “Looking forward to a fresh start with Paul in terms of him having a training camp with the group. Kind of getting kicked off on the right foot here. Looking forward to having a great start to the season.”

When asked to clarify that he was happy to be with the Jets, Kane added, “That would be correct.”
