The National Hockey League and American Hockey League announced Thursday that an education and drug testing program will be in place for the upcoming AHL season.

The program, which is a joint effort between the two leagues, the NHLPA and the Professional Hockey Player’s Association (which represents AHL players in collective bargaining) will replicate the policies currently used for for NHL players.

The drug testing program will be administered by the doctors who supervise the NHL/NHLPA Performance-Enhancing Substances Program and the Substance Abuse/ Behavioral Health Program.
