The Philadelphia Flyers brought a familiar surname into the fold on Monday, signing forward Brett Hextall to a deal with their AHL affiliate in Lehigh Valley.
Hextall, 26, is the son of Flyers GM Ron Hextall.
The former University of North Dakota winger was drafted by the Coyotes in the sixth round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, and spent his first three professional seasons playing for their AHL affiliate in Portland. Hextall’s best season came last year, when he scored 11 goals and 23 points in 59 games for the Pirates.
In Lehigh Valley, Hextall will play for Terry Murray -- the same guy that coached Ron in Philadelphia from 1994-97.
