The Philadelphia Flyers announced Tuesday that defenseman Kimmo Timonen has been diagnosed with multiple blood clots and his return to play is yet to be determined .

Timonen, 39, has blood clots in his lower right leg and in both lungs according to a team release.

As Sarah Baicker of CSN Philadelphia points out, it’s the second time Timonen is dealing with blood clots:

Timonen is the latest player to deal with blood clots. Goaltender Tomas Vokoun missed the entire 2013-14 season as a result of a blood clot in his foot. It was the second time in his career Vokoun had to deal with blood clot issues.

Timonen, who signed a one-year $2 million contract with the Flyers on June 13, is being treated in his native Finland.

A 15-year NHL veteran, Timonen has spent the past seven seasons with Philadelphia.
