Sharks start extension talks with Braun

Justin Braun is still under contract through the 2014-15 campaign, but it looks like the San Jose Sharks don’t want him to even come close to testing the unrestricted free agent waters if they can help it. San Jose has already reached out to Braun’s agent, Neil Sheehy, although it sounds like the process isn’t moving quickly at this stage.

“Nothing yet. We will be talking more later in the month after Justin’s wedding (this weekend),” Sheehy told CSN Bay Area.

The 27-year-old defenseman averaged 20:59 minutes per game with San Jose in 2013-14, which was good for second on the team behind only Dan Boyle. With Boyle gone, Braun might be leaned on even more next season.

He’s currently signed to a three-year, $3.75 million contract and is in line for a sizable raise. Braun is one of four blueliners with the Sharks that are eligible to become unrestricted free agents in the summer of 2015. The other three are Scott Hannan, Matt Irwin, and Taylor Fedun.
