With his KHL club team, Ukraine-based HC Donbass, having ceased operations after its arena was looted and set afire, longtime NHLer Ruslan Fedotenko is aiming for a return to North America.
“We’ve had multiple discussions with multiple NHL teams,” Fedotenko’s agent, Allan Walsh, told the Toronto Star. “The goal is to play in the NHL next year.”
Fedotenko, 35, hasn’t played in the NHL since the lockout-shortened ’13 campaign, when he scored 13 points in 47 games for Philadelphia. It’ll be interesting to see if any teams take a flier on him -- though he’s a little long in the tooth and not the fastest skater, he’s a physical presence with extensive playoff experience, having appeared in over 100 career postseason contests while winning a pair of Stanley Cups, with Tampa Bay and Pittsburgh.
