Moulson goes back to Buffalo — five years, $25 million

Matt Moulson is going back to Buffalo. The 30-year-old winger who started last season with the Islanders before he was traded to the Sabres and then the Wild has signed a five-year, $25 million contract with the NHL’s worst team of 2013-14.

Moulson scored 23 times during the regular season, 11 of them in 44 games with the Sabres. While his best years came on Long Island while playing with John Tavares, with Cody Hodgson and Sam Reinhart among the young centers in the Sabres’ organization, Moulson clearly saw good reason to return to rebuilding Buffalo.

“I think they have a clear direction to where this team wants to go,” Moulson told TSN. “I love the guys, the staff there. Teddy Nolan is an unbelievable coach.”

Moulson, who grew up close to Buffalo, in Mississauga, Ontario, added: “There’s a bright future for this team, and I’m excited to be there.”
