The Edmonton Oilers have not been a good team in almost a decade. But general manager Craig MacTavish thinks he has “a compelling story to tell” when trying to lure free agents to the Alberta city.

“Our story is quite compelling,” MacTavish said, per the Edmonton Journal. “We’re going into a beautiful new building. It’s going to be a spectacular structure. We’re well down the road in the rebuild and the building’s been full through it all.

“This is going to turn, and players have a chance to get in on the ground-floor. I believe we have a very good story to tell.”

This is pure speculation, but would Brian Boyle, 29, make sense for the Oilers? The big forward is looking for “more responsibility” than the fourth-line role he was given in the playoffs with the Rangers, while MacTavish is looking for “second, third-line forwards” who are “in their 20s” and can support the young talent the club has drafted during its rebuild.
