When Leo Komarov played for the Toronto Maple Leafs during the lockout-shortened 2013 season, he must’ve left a big impression on Leafs brass.
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reports Maple Leafs GM Dave Nonis flew to Finland to meet with Komarov about bringing him back to Toronto. According to Sportsnet’s Chris Johnston, the Leafs’ interest in Komarov is “tremendous” but he’s seeking a multiple-year deal to return to the NHL and will head to free agency to get it.
When Komarov was in the NHL previously, he had an $850,000 pro-rated deal with the Leafs and had four goals and nine points in 42 games. In case you’ve forgotten, his role is more that of a penalty killer and pest, something many teams could get good use out of him.
The Leafs had sole dibs on him when they brought him over before, but now he can sign anywhere. He played last season in the KHL with Moscow Dynamo.
