Backup goalies will be all the rage today and the Washington Capitals have landed theirs.

Alex Prewitt of The Washington Post reports the Caps have signed Justin Peters to a two-year, $1.9 million deal. Peters, formerly with the Carolina Hurricanes, will back-up Braden Holtby in Washington.

Peters, 27, played in 21 games with Carolina last season and had a .919 save percentage with a 7-9-4 record. He was a third-string goalie for the ‘Canes as he backed up both Anton Khudobin and Cam Ward.

This opportunity with Washington will be his first real chance to hold down a No. 2 job in the NHL. With Philipp Grubauer slated to play full-time in the AHL next season, Peters should get a fair shake.
