The Calgary Flames are “likely” to use a compliance buyout on Shane O’Brien, according to Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos.

No surprise there -- O’Brien has just one season remaining on his current contract ($2.2 million cap hit) and finished 2013-14 in the minors, with the Flames apparently displeased with his level of commitment.

O’Brien turns 31 in August and had just three assists in 45 games last season, while logging only 11:16 per contest. He’s a popular player with teammates, but Calgary wasn’t the first place his professionalism was questioned.

The Flames have yet to use one of their two compliance buyouts.
