Video: Draft host Flyers pick d-man Sanheim

Travis Sanheim is the newest member of the Philadelphia Flyers organization, and he was welcomed to the club with an enthusiastic ovation from the crowd at Wells Fargo Center. The 18-year-old defenseman was taken 17th overall by the draft hosts, in spite of a final ranking of No. 53 among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting.

Sanheim had five goals and 24 assists for WHL Calgary, and apparently finished the season stronger than he started.

“When he started getting more ice time in November, he started becoming one of their best defenders,” said Central Scouting’s B.J. MacDonald. “His one-on-one play and containment gets better every game. He uses his reach with an active stick and is not afraid to stand up and challenge forwards. He could be a nice surprise pick; he has the size and hockey sense for the next level.”
