Assistant coach Johansson leaves Capitals for family reasons

Calle Johansson is leaving the Washington Capitals for personal reasons, having re-joined the team as an assistant coach for the past two seasons.

“I’m really sorry,” Johansson told the blog Dump ‘N Chase. “We really liked it. It was a tough decision, really tough.

“The main reason was that our youngest daughter, Madeline, was going to high school over here in Sweden. And she missed one year, and that’s okay. But she didn’t want to miss any more and she really missed her friends. That was the main reason; so my daughter could go back to school in Sweden with her friends. That’s it.”

Johansson played 983 games for the Capitals from 1989 to 2003.

In other coaching news around the National Hockey League: The Anaheim Ducks have named Trent Yawney as an assistant coach, while the Carolina Hurricanes named Steve Smith as an assistant coach.
