A few notes:

  • The season opens in Boston (vs. Philadelphia), Toronto (vs. Montreal), Calgary (vs. Vancouver), and Los Angeles (vs. San Jose) on October 8. Sorry Sharks fans, you may want to avoid watching opening night as the Kings will be raising the 2014 Stanley Cup banner. As if losing that opening round series after being up 3-0 wasn’t hard enough...
  • Colorado and Minnesota open the season with a home-and-home set against each other. That should keep that playoff rivalry going strong.
  • The Devils don’t have their home-opener until October 18 against San Jose, 10 days into the start of the season. That’s a bit of a road trip to start the season. They’ll be part of two other teams’ home openers (Philadelphia, Florida) before they have their own.
  • Anaheim and Winnipeg have similar long waits to play their first home games as they’ll wait it out until October 17.
  • The Arizona Coyotes make their new name debut against the franchise they once used to be known as.
  • Traditional rivalries will be all over the place to start the year. Los Angeles with San Jose, Montreal with Boston, Toronto with Montreal, Edmonton has Calgary, Tampa Bay gets Florida, Calgary gets Vancouver.

We ranked the five openers we’re looking forward to the most.
