Oilers add Ramsay to coaching staff; Buchberger takes job in player personnel

The Edmonton Oilers have hired Craig Ramsay as an assistant coach. Kelly Buchberger, meanwhile, will “transition” out of his role as an assistant coach and into a new one in player personnel.

Ramsay joins the Oilers’ coaching staff, headed by Dallas Eakins, after being fired by the Florida Panthers in November (along with head coach Kevin Dineen and another assistant, Gord Murphy.)

Ramsay, a longtime winger in the NHL with the Sabres, has been a head coach for three teams — Buffalo, Philadelphia and Atlanta — but not for long with each. In 2011, after just one season behind Atlanta’s bench, his services were not retained when the Thrashers moved to Winnipeg.

In addition to the Ramsay and Buchberger moves, TSN’s Darren Dreger reports that Oilers assistant coach Steve Smith is “considering options.”
