Skelleftea raid continues: Sharks sign SHL standout Karlsson

After winning back-to-back Swedish league titles, Skelleftea AIK is getting its cupboard raided.

On Friday, the San Jose Sharks announced they’ve signed Skelleftea forward Melker Karlsson to a one-year pact. Karlsson, 23, had 25 points in 48 regular season games this year and 12 in 14 postseason affairs, finishing 6th in the SHL in playoff scoring.

As mentioned above, he’s just the latest to leave the Swedish powerhouse. On Wednesday, St. Louis signed Joakim Lindstrom -- who’d spent the last three seasons with Skelleftea after a seven-year NHL stint -- and, later that day, Nashville announced it agreed to terms with defenseman Johan Alm, who’d spent the last two years in Skelleftea.

The club also lost another player -- Jimmie Ericsson, brother of Detroit defenseman Jonathan Ericsson -- as he signed with KHL club SKA St. Petersburg earlier this week.
