Video: Quick denies Perry on first-period penalty shot

It was one of a handful of pivotal moments in the first period of Friday’s Game 7.

With his team down two goals, Anaheim Ducks forward Corey Perry was awarded a penalty shot when his stick broke on a breakaway chance and it appeared at first as though Drew Doughty was the guilty party for a slash on Perry’s stick as he closed in. But Perry, when given his one-on-one chance, couldn’t beat L.A. Kings goalie Jonathan Quick, who threw out the poke check.

Now, there was some debate as to whether this should’ve been called a penalty shot at all.

Yes, Perry’s stick broke, but did it happen because of the Doughty slash, or because of something else. The clip below shows Perry blocked a shot at the Anaheim blue line and a screen grab circulating Twitter right now shows the puck actually hit off the top part of the stick before Perry got his breakaway.
