It probably wasn’t the Game 7 performance 20-year-old goalie John Gibson envisioned.
The rookie Anaheim Ducks puck stopper was pulled in the second period of Friday’s game against the L.A. Kings after allowing four goals on 18 shots. Right from the opening puck drop, L.A. was all over Anaheim and wasn’t about to let up.
The Kings gained a 3-0 lead after the first period on goals by Justin Williams – Mr. Game 7, based on his history – and Jeff Carter and Mike Richards.
Anze Kopitar ended Gibson’s night at the 2:02 mark of the second period, as his wrist shot beat Gibson to put the Kings up by four goals. Jonas Hiller came into the game for Anaheim.
Gibson entered the series in Game 4, winning his first two starts.
