New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist will have the open up his wallet after spraying Sidney Crosby with the contents of his water bottle during Game 6 on Sunday.
The NHL announced that he has been fined $5,000 over the incident, which occurred at the end of the second period. Lundqvist played coy when the issue was brought up later.
“I always squirt it when I go off the ice,” Lundqvist said. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
This comes after Boston’s Shawn Thornton was told to cough up $2,820.52 for spraying Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban.
Crosby speared New York’s Dominic Moore during the same contest, but appears to have avoided a fine or suspension.
The Rangers won Sunday’s contest 3-1 to force a Game 7 on Tuesday.
