McDonagh ‘needs to find…another level’ tonight versus Flyers

For Ryan McDonagh, Wayne Simmonds’ first of three goals last night in Philadelphia pretty much summed up how the playoffs have been going for the Rangers’ best defenseman:

If you missed it, Simmonds was only able to score after McDonagh inadvertently kicked it onto the Flyer forward’s stick.

Tonight in Game 7 at Madison Square Garden, Rangers coach Alain Vigneault is hoping McDonagh can regain the form that saw the 24-year-old score a career-high 43 points in the regular season, as opposed to the one that’s seen him held pointless in the first six game of the playoffs, with a minus-2 rating.

“He’s obviously been our best defenseman all year,” said Vigneault, per ESPN New York. “He’s played some good hockey so far in this series, but I do believe there’s another level. He needs to find that for us tonight.”
