Mason says Flyers fans’ support sent chills down his spine

Whether the Philadelphia Flyers win Game 7 against the New York Rangers or not, Tuesday seemed like a special night for Steve Mason.

While he allowed two goals in the grand scheme of things in a 5-2 Game 6 win, Mason closed the door on the Rangers until the game seemed out of reach, making some beautiful saves in the process. Flyers fans took notice, too, chanting his name and giving him some rousing ovations.

The 25-year-old definitely seemed touched by that treatment, as he mentioned after the game.

(Interestingly enough, Marc-Andre Fleury described a similar feeling when he received nice support in Pittsburgh during a recent playoff win.)

Mason is under contract with the Flyers through the 2016-17 season, so he’s likely to face a wide variety of reactions in the next few seasons (if not following Game 7, even if it’s at Madison Square Garden). Still, for a goalie who was at a serious crossroads when he joined the Flyers in the 2012-13 season, this has to be a great feeling.
