Wings want a ‘top-four right-handed shooting defenseman’

“If we can find a top-four right-handed shooting defenseman by trade or free agency, we’d certainly like to add one.”

That was Detroit general manager Ken Holland after his Red Wings were eliminated by the Boston Bruins, per MLive.com.

All seven d-men the Wings used in the playoffs were lefties, so it’s no surprise Holland would like to add at least one that shoots the other way.

Just for fun, we’ll go ahead and throw out the name Dustin Byfuglien. The big Jets’ d-man/forward has a booming shot from the point, and could certainly help a Wings’ power play that hasn’t been among the league’s best since the retirement of right-shooting Brian Rafalski.

Pittsburgh’s Matt Niskanen is another option should the 27-year-old test the market as an unrestricted free agent this summer.
