Rangers recall Miller, hopes to impress Vigneault in playoffs

The New York Rangers will have J.T. Miller with them at least ahead of the start of their first round playoff battle with the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Rangers recalled Miller from AHL Hartford this afternoon and this time around he’ll have motivation to work with. When Miller was sent down on April 3, coach Alain Vigneault said he wanted more commitment from him or else he’ll be a great minor leaguer.

In 41 games with the Hartford Wolfpack, Miller had 43 points including 15 goals. At the very least, Vigneault has the “great minor leaguer” part down, but the playoffs provide an opportunity for the 2011 first-round pick (15th overall) to show he can play the same way on the big level.

So far that hasn’t happened as Miller has six points in 30 games with the Rangers.
