A lot is up in the air for Martin Brodeur this summer, but if this is his last game in the NHL in general or the New Jersey Devils specifically, he went out a winner. The Devils treated him like such, too:
Sunday’s 3-2 victory against the Boston Bruins fattens Brodeur’s NHL-record win total to 688, all with the Devils. The 41-year-old also collected 113 playoff victories for the Devils, so he has 801 victories between the regular season and postseason for this franchise.
Despite all the accolades, this season cemented the notion that the Devils are now Cory Schneider’s team, so the question for Brodeur is: what’s next?
While the future Hall of Famer’s next step is unclear, there was no distinguishing the goal on Sunday: the Devils wanted to “win one for Marty,” as Dainius Zubrus said.
