Winnipeg Jets defenseman Jacob Trouba left Friday’s game against the Calgary Flames and will not return, the NHL club announced just a short time ago.

The 20-year-old Trouba took a puck to the face in the first period, when Paul Byron’s slap shot deflected off the blue liner’s stick and into his face.

Earlier in the game, Trouba recorded an assist, his 19th of the season on Michael Frolik’s goal that opened the scoring.

Updated: According to Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun, Jets’ head coach Paul Maurice said Trouba took the puck to the throat but is expected to be fine. Center Jim Slater also suffered a broken finger.
