Get your game notes: Bruins at Red Wings

Boston Bruins v Washington Capitals

at Verizon Center on March 29, 2014 in Washington, DC.

Rob Carr

Tonight on NBCSN, it’s the Detroit Red Wings hosting the Boston Bruins starting at 8 p.m. ET. Following are some game notes, as compiled by the NHL on NBC research team:

• The Bruins, who finished March on a 15-0-1 run over their last 16 games, last lost in regulation on March 1 (4-2 vs. Washington), and last lost on the road on Feb. 26 (5-4 in overtime at Buffalo). Boston comes in riding a franchise record nine-game road win streak (outscoring their opponents 35-18) and a franchise record 16-game road point streak (13-0-3 record) dating back to Jan. 9 (4-2 at Los Angeles).

• The Red Wings have gone 5-1-1 at Joe Louis Arena since Mar. 7, but they remain the second-worst home team among all NHL teams currently in playoff position. Only the N.Y. Rangers (18-16-4) are worse. Tonight, the Wings face the best road team in the NHL, the Bruins, on their home ice.

• The NHL’s first (36-year-old Bruins right winger Jarome Iginla) and second (24-year-old Red Wings left winger Gustav Nyquist) stars for the month of March are meeting in this game.

• Iginla (560 goals) needs one goal to move past Hall of Famer Guy Lafleur (560) into a tie for 23rd on the NHL’s all-time goal-scoring list with Mike Modano (561). With five goals in the Bruins’ last seven games, Iginla could also pass Hall of Famers Joe Nieuwendyk and Mats Sundin (564 each).

• Nyquist enters tonight’s game on a nine-game point streak (11-2—13), the longest by a Red Wings player since Henrik Zetterberg tallied points in 11 straight (6-10—16), Dec. 22, 2010-Jan. 10, 2011.

• Bruins center Patrice Bergeron has scored a goal in seven straight games. That streak is tied for the longest in the NHL this season (Anaheim’s Corey Perry, Nov. 29-Dec. 11, 2013) and is the longest for a Bruins player in one season since current team president Cam Neely scored in eight straight (Dec. 9-23, 1990). Elias Sports Bureau

• Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask made a career-high 49 saves for his 100th win Sunday at Philadelphia. Rask became the seventh Finnish-born goaltender in NHL history to hit the century mark in wins. He improved to 9-0-1 with a 1.46 GAA, .951 SV% and two shutouts in his last 10 starts. Tonight, he is expected to face Red Wings number-one goalie, Jimmy Howard, who is seeking career win #150.

• The Bruins (52-17-6, 110 pts.) have surpassed the 100-point mark for the third time in their last four seasons and fourth time in their last six. They need five wins and 11 points in their final seven games to match single-season franchise records for wins (57) and points (120), both set by the 1970-71 team. That team was upset in the opening round of the playoffs by the eventual Stanley Cup champions, Montreal.

• The Red Wings have made the playoffs 22 consecutive seasons dating back to the 1990-91 season, the fifth longest postseason streak in NHL history and longest active streak in the league. The Bruins hold the record for the longest playoff streak in NHL history (29 seasons, 1967-68 through 1995-96).
