Detroit calls up what would be eighth rookie to debut this season

If you want further ammo to argue that Mike Babcock should win coach of the year if Detroit makes the playoffs, consider this:

Callahan, 22, was a sixth-round pick at the 2009 NHL Entry Draft that’s spent the last three seasons with Grand Rapids (helping the Griffins win the Calder Cup last season, with 11 points in 24 games.) But the big story, obviously, is that Detroit’s primed to give eight players their NHL debuts this season… while the team is engaged in an ultra-tight playoff chase, looking to extend its consecutive postseason appearance streak to 23 years.

Ferraro made his debut against Toronto on Mar. 18, and proceeded to appear in three more games. Detroit’s other NHL debutantes from this season are Alexey Marchenko, Teemu Pulkkinen, Xavier Ouellet, Adam Almquist, Luke Glendening and Tomas Jurco.
