Oilers forward Jesse Joensuu will have his 2013-14 campaign end prematurely.
Joensuu suffered a high ankle sprain and will miss at least the next four weeks, the club announced on Tuesday. That all but finishes his season, as the Oilers won’t be making the playoffs and have just 13 games left in the regular season.
“I feel for him,” Edmonton head coach Dallas Eakins said, per the team’s Twitter feed. “He’s been so dedicated this year.”
Joensuu, 26, is in the first of a two-year, $1.9 million deal signed with Edmonton last summer. The gritty Finn scored three goals and five points in 42 games this year — matching a career-high in appearances — while averaging around nine minutes per game in a fourth-line role.
