Sabres recall goalie Hackett on emergency basis (Updated)

The Buffalo Sabres have recalled goaltender Matt Hackett from AHL Rochester on an emergency basis, a move that was necessitated by injuries to Michal Neuvirth and Jhonas Enroth.

From the club’s release:

Hackett (3/7/90, 6’2″, 171 lbs) joins the Sabres for the first time since being acquired by the club in a trade with the Minnesota Wild in 2013. While in the Wild organization, Hackett played in 13 NHL games over the course of the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons, recording a 3-7-0 record with a .914 SV% and 2.64 goals-against average.

With Hackett backing up, Nathan Lieuwen could make his first NHL start Tuesday in Calgary. The rookie netminder stopped all 10 shots in relief of Enroth on Sunday in a 2-0 loss to Montreal, marking Buffalo’s sixth straight regulation defeat.

Update: Enroth won’t be traveling with the Sabres on their upcoming five-game road trip.
