The Pittsburgh Penguins were badly outshot, but managed to beat the Anaheim Ducks anyway.
The Penguins managed only 17 shots through three periods of regulation and the overtime, while allowing 31 Anaheim Ducks. Yet, in the end, and after a six-round shootout, the Penguins emerged victorious by a final of 3-2.
“We got a lot of work early on our defensive zone coverage,” said Penguins defenseman Brooks Orpik, as per the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
Marc-Andre Fleury was busy in this one, making 29 saves. Sidney Crosby, Chris Kunitz and Brandon Sutter scored in the skills competition for Pittsburgh.
Anaheim defenseman Luca Sbisa left the game in the first period with a lower-body injury and did not return.
#NHLDucks @RevLovejoy6 on tonight's game: "These two teams would have continued to beat up on each other [if there was no shootout]."
