Panthers GM: ‘We’re not blowing this thing up’

The Florida Panthers may have no legitimate shot of making the playoffs, but that doesn’t mean general manager Dale Tallon is in a selling mood as Wednesday’s trade deadline approaches.

“We’re not blowing this thing up,” said Tallon, per the Miami Herald. “If we can sell some assets to get better, we’ll do that. It depends what happens in the next few weeks. We’ll be aggressive either way.”

Pending unrestricted free agents Tom Gilbert, Brad Boyes, and Tim Thomas could all garner interest at the deadline; however, it seems Tallon would prefer to re-sign them for next season, should they have a desire to stay.

Tallon has apparently been given permission to spend to the cap by new ownership, so those three could be in line for healthy raises. (Which may just increase their aforementioned desire to stay.)
