In the words of NHL commissioner Gary Bettman: “We have a trade to announce.”

The Chicago Blackhawks added depth up front, acquiring forwards Pierre-Marc Bouchard and Peter Regin from the New York Islanders in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2014 NHL Draft.

According to hockey insider Pierre LeBrun, the Islanders will retain 50 per cent of salary and cap hit for both Bouchard and Regin.

Bouchard is on a one-year contract with a cap hit of $2 million, as per Capgeek.com. Regin is also on a one-year deal, but with a cap hit of $750,000.

The 29-year-old Bouchard, a former first-round draft pick, has seen his offensive production slip off dramatically over the years. He has four goals and nine points in 28 games for New York. He had been on loan to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in the American Hockey League since December.

Regin, 27, has two goals and seven points in 44 games.
