The St. John’s IceCaps issued a statement in response to the recent reports that the Jets are considering relocating their AHL team to Thunder Bay, Ontario. The IceCaps said that they always knew this was a possibility, so they’ve been actively looking for a replacement NHL partner in the event that the Jets leave. (St. John’s IceCaps)

Calgary Flames president Brian Burke wasn’t looking to trade Matt Stajan back when he was the general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, but Calgary insisted on him being part of the Dion Phaneuf deal if it were to go forward. Now that Burke has switched from Toronto to Calgary, he feels Stajan is “far better” than he was before the trade. That was his motivation for signing Stajan to a four-year extension.
